FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAJOR FEATURE FILM ANNOUNCED BASED ON THE LIFE OF JEFF HORN
Sydney, 12 December 2018 – Unbreakable Films today announced its plans to produce a feature film based on the life of world champion boxer Jeff “The Hornet” Horn.
Riding the wave of Horn’s current trajectory, Unbreakable films is in discussions with major global distributors and A-list talent to brings Horn’s story to the big screen.
The film will chronicle Horn’s life, from bullied schoolboy to world champion, and will also explore his extraordinary relationship with his trainer and mentor, Glenn Rushton.
Horn has this month cemented his status as one of the world’s greatest boxers following his highly publicised 96 second knock out, ending Anthony Mundine’s career in front of a major global audience.
The former primary school teacher first shot to international stardom in 2017 when, in one of the most unexpected outcomes in the history of the sport, in front of more than 51,000 people at Suncorp Stadium, he became the WBO World Welterweight Champion by defeating the only ever 8 division world champion and Fighter of the Decade Manny Pacquiao, who was at the time considered to be the best active boxer in the world.
Unbreakable Films Managing Director, Kristie Spillane, stated:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be entrusted with telling this incredible and extremely important story. This is so much bigger than the sport (of boxing) and it’s about Glenn as much as it is Jeff. There’s something about the two of them together that’s created a force of nature that has defied logic. For Glenn to have taken this timid, suicidal kid and turned him into a world champion is unbelievable. You won’t find a better testament to the power of belief and perseverance. We want every person who’s been made to feel like they’re not good enough to know this epic story of hope that will resonate with people from all over the world.”
Working in partnership with Horn and Rushton, Unbreakable Films will begin production mid-2019 for a global release in 2020.
The film is planned to shoot in Queensland, representing a significant contribution to the local film industry, following the State Government’s notable support of Horn’s sporting accomplishments and recognition of his contributions to the state.
